Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Q. Why isn't my textbook available as a rental?

A.  We would love to have all books available to rent, however that is not possible or practical.  In order to be "rentable" a textbook must meet certain criteria; including the following:

1.  We must have a minimum 2 year committment from the faculty member

2.  The book must be a fairly new book where a revised edition is not anticipated in the

     near future.
3.  The course must be offered every semester with fairly high enrollment.

Q. Why should I reserve my textbooks?

A. By reserving your textbooks, you'll have the best opportunity to get used books. (25% cheaper than new books). Reservations are processed in the order in which they are received. You'll also save time, as your textbooks will have already been pulled.

Q. How much will my textbooks cost?

A. This question is nearly impossible to answer. In some instances your reservation is submitted before an instructor has made his or her selection. We work up until the last possible moment to try and obtain used books to keep your costs as low as possible. Also, many books arrive very close to the beginning of the semester - so pricing information may not be available prior to us receiving the books.

Q. Why aren't used books available for all of my classes?

A. We wish they were!! Used books are less expensive for the student as well as the bookstore. We make every effort possible to obtain as many used books as possible. There will not be used copies available when a book was recently revised, or when the book is a consumable (i.e. a lab manual or workbook where pages are removed)

Q. Why isn't there anything showing in my shopping cart?

A. When you selected the dept. (ex: BY) and then course (BY "1115") and clicked the button to "Continue to Get Course Materials", you need to click on the "add to cart" button next to the item(s) you want to reserve... otherwise your reservation will come to us showing nothing was selected.

Q. Can I add, change, or delete my order once it has been submitted?

A. Once you've gone through the checkout process and clicked on the "submit order" button on the "payment options" screen- your order cannot be changed online. You CAN of course call us and let us know what changes to make to your reservation.

Q. Why can't I find the textbook(s) listed for my dept/class/section?

A There may be different reasons: 1. The instructor hasn't been assigned or hasn't submitted book information to us (in these situations title information will appear as "yet to be determined") or 2. Make sure you have entered the correct department code (for example Biology is BY not BI).
